What Type of Wood is Used to Construct the Palapas?
Our Palapas are made from an extremely durable, rot and insect resistant cypress family wood, red cedar. We use this wood for it’s long life characteristics and long fine grain.
How Long Does the Thatch Last?
Our sustainable natural thatch comes from Mexico, is hand cut and trimmed in our shop with a life expectancy of 8-10 years.
How well will a Luxury Palapa hold up in extreme weather conditions?
Our Palapas are extremely durable and strong and with the bird netting can withstand 130 mile and hour winds.
Does My Palapa/Thatch Require a Great Deal of Maintenance?
Generally, natural palm thatch is hearty and long lasting and doesn't require maintenance until 3 years and then on Cedar posts only.
Can I Install a Palapa in an Existing Concrete Patio or Pool Deck?
If you have an exisiting concrete surface area around your pool or an adjacent patio off your home, we use galvanized post connectors installed with stainless lag bolts into your concrete. If you have a boat pier, palapa posts are installed in a similar manner.
Are the Installers Insured?
Yes. All Luxury Palapa workers and contractor are bonded and insured.
Do I Need Fire Retardant on My Palapa?
No, we add the fire retardant on our leaves at our workshop and also treat them after installation.
When Do I Replace the Thatch on my Palapa/Tiki Hut?
Our Palapa thatch is extremely durable and often lasts 7-8 years.
What is the difference between a palapa and a tiki hut?
We get this question a lot. It's the same thing; palapa word is a Spanish term for tiki hut.
Other than natural Mexican thatch, do you offer any synthetic thatch leaves?
Yes, because of popular demand, Luxury Palapas offers 3 different styles of of syntethic leaves. They all come with long warranties up to 20 years.
How long do synthetic leaves last on a palapa?
The synthetic palm thatch leaves options outlast their natural counterparts for twice as long.
Does my concrete get cut into when installing the posts of the palapa?
No, we don't cut the concrete we use anchor bolts and metal plates to secure the palapa.
My Roof on my home is metal... Does Luxury Palapas install metal roofs on structures?
We sure do. Some of our farm and ranch installations have metal roofs.
